So I watched "Bad News" last night, and I was shocked. The ending was just...unbelievable. I never cried so hard in at a TV show. Mind you, I haven't been watching HIMYM very long, but during my winter break from school, I've caught up with all the episodes. We didn't see Marshall's father very often in the series, but when Lily told Marshall his father died, the waterworks came. It was mostly this face that did it:

Aside from Ted, Marshall is my favorite character, and seeing him so upset...I just couldn't take it. Hearing him say "I'm not ready for this" while his voice was on the verge of cracking... wow. It was the same voice that my dad had when his father died, and my mom when her father died.
I found the episode to be very well written, and the acting was amazing. Jason and Alyson did a phenomenal job with the last scene. Not to mention the numbers. I started noticing that starting with 50, every so often we saw a new number, counting down until the end of the episode where Lily got out of cab number 0001, and told Marshall the bad news. I didn't understand what the countdown was about, but watching it a second time, I saw that it was to prepare us for something big.
Even though it ended rather sadly, this is probably one of my favorite episodes, based on script and acting alone.
If you've seen the episode, what do you think of it?

I haven't watched this episode yet (I tend to watch them weeks late :P) but How I Met Your Mother is one of my favourite shows!
OMG, this episode KILLED us! I was watching with my husband (we DVR it since I don't get home until later - it's one of our favorite shows). We laughed through the whole episode (as we always do), but then I got a funny feeling in the last minute or two. As the cab pulled up, I just knew ... and then she said it. We lost my father-in-law a little over a year ago, so it definitely hit home. My husband and I were stunned. We just looked at each other (tears in our eyes) and kept repeating "not cool."
Great writing, great acting ... still, just ... stunned
