My parents have Facebook?

Almost everyone in the world knows or has heard of Facebook. It is a great social networking site that can keep you in touch with people you went to school with, coworkers, family, and just about anyone you know. I myself have been using Facebook for about 3 years.

While talking to some friends a few months ago, the topic of parents on Facebook came up. There were mixed opinions on the subject. Some had parents who had an account, but they didn't want to add their mother or father to their friend list. Others thought just having a mother or father with a Facebook account was weird. Then there were the ones like me, whose parents have an account and are on my friends list.

Personally, I don't see what the big deal is with having my parents as Facebook friends. They both have their own set of friends and don't really bother with my profile too much. Yes, occasionally they will go on my page, but for the most part, they pretty much stay out of my business if I ask them to. I think that it will be a great thing to have once I move out in a couple weeks, because it's just one more way I know I can stay in touch with them.

I have never seent he problem in having my parents on facebook, i find it wierd that some people would. Maybe sometimes the tag photo section maybe something that you would hate your parents too see, which on facebook, tagging photos is something you can't ever stop people doing especially in my case lol

My parents don't have Facebook, and I prefer to keep it that way. I'm not a "bad" person or anything, but I would prefer that they don't know all of my life. And some of the pictures tagged ... I don't need them to know that. I tell them about my life. I email them and stuff. That's all they need to know :)

Personally, I think it's more a matter of what YOU are doing or posting that's an issue ... some people don't want their parents to see what they're really doing on a daily basis ... what they don't realize, though, is that SO MANY other people can see it (and you never know who might know someone you know!!) ... So my rule of thumb is ... if you're doing something that you wouldn't want a particular person to find out about, don't post in public!! (Of course there's also the option to not do whatever it is you don't want people to know about!

On the lighter side, there was recently an SNL skit about this ... you can look it up on youtube or hulu - really funny!
